Online Workshop: An Introduction to Trauma-Informed Practice

Audience
This one day session is designed for adult and child and family social workers, occupational therapists and newly qualified social workers.
Aim
This one-day session will support development of trauma-informed practice in social care through increasing understanding of the prevalence, presentations and impacts of trauma, increasing understanding of trauma-informed approaches and exploring their application in practice.
The session combines online and offline working, viewing of films and group activities and discussion.
Learning Outcomes
- Define trauma and understand how trauma may manifest in individuals.
- Consider how trauma may affect ‘help seeking’ and engagement.
- Describe and understand principles of Trauma-Informed approaches in direct work with individuals over their life course.
- Consider common procedures and practice in social care through the lens of trauma and how we can adapt these to minimise distress.
- Understand the importance of managing vicarious trauma and intersecting experiences.
- Explore additional ways of applying trauma-informed approaches in practice and consider the support you need, and identify actions to take in your own practice and in your team.
Please Note: This event is a 6 hour online workshop delivered through Microsoft Teams. Please ensure you are able to attend the whole workshop. A quiet, undisturbed environment will help you get the most of the session.
