DSL: Professional Differences and Managing Allegations
Audience
This course is one of two that are suitable for Designated Leads and whose who have a safeguarding lead role in any organisation, eg: designated safeguarding lead in a school, safeguarding lead GP, social worker, care manager, Independent Violence Advisors, named doctor or nurse, police public protection unit, any staff undertaking adult safeguarding enquiries/assessments. It is also suitable for those who have specific responsibility for managing allegations of abuse against members of staff or volunteers. The other course is 'DSL: Your Role as Safeguarding Lead' (half day course).
Aim
To enable practitioners working with children and adults at risk to understand how professional challenge contributes to effective safeguarding. Also, to enable professionals who are responsible for managing allegations of abuse against staff or volunteers to use the Managing Allegations Framework (Adult Workforce)

Before you attend this course, you must download and complete the workbook which is accessed here. You must bring your finished workbook to the in-person session.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course the participants should be able to:
- Explain how professional challenges contribute to effective safeguarding.
- Explain the concept of 'professional curiosity'.
- Identify factors that may inhibit or facilitate professional differences
- Identify how the SPB's Resolving Professional Differences/Escalation Policy can be used to resolve professional differences in relation to the safeguarding needs of children and adults.
- Explain the steps to take when an allegation of abuse is made against a member of staff using the Managing Allegations Framework (Adult Workforce)
- Explain the steps to take when an allegation of abuse is made against a member of staff using the Managing Allegations Framework (Child Workforce) and Multi-Agency Managing Allegations Framework for Adults.
Please Note: This event is a 3-hour face to face session and also requires approximately 4 hours of pre-work which must be completed before coming on the session.
