About the course
This training brings together content previously delivered across two Designated Safeguarding Lead courses - ‘Your Role as Safeguarding Lead’ and ‘Professional Differences and Managing Allegations’ - into a single, comprehensive session.
Audience
This course is suitable for anyone who holds a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) role, or who has responsibility for safeguarding leadership within their organisation, working with children and/or adults at risk.
Aim
To enable Designated Safeguarding Leads to understand their role in creating safer organisations through effective supervision, professional challenge and managing allegations.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course participants should be able to:
- Describe the role and responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead within an organisation.
- Identify key features of safer organisations, including safer recruitment practices.
- Explain the role of supervision in safeguarding, including how it supports professional curiosity and challenge.
- Apply practical techniques to support and enhance effective supervision.
- Explain how professional curiosity and professional challenge contribute to effective safeguarding.
- Identify barriers to, and facilitators of, effective professional challenge and differences.
- Use local escalation and resolving professional differences procedures to address safeguarding concerns.
- Explain the steps to take when managing allegations of abuse against staff or volunteers, in line with relevant frameworks for children and adults.
Course format: 5½-hour face-to-face session
